MUSICAL THEATRE - JAZZ/TAP

As in most forms of dance, technique is the foundation for all modern jazz and tap dance movements and adds versatility and breath to dance students education. In particular, jazz dancers benefit from a sound working knowledge of ballet technique. Also known as modern or jazz ballet, it’s performed in musicals, commercials and music videos. The performance style of jazz dance was popularized to a large extent by Bob Fosse's work for Broadway such as Chicago and Cabaret. Modern jazz dance continues to be a dominant element of musical theatre and competitive dance. Our Jazz program is offered to students of 4 years to Adult.

Tap dance is a form of dance characterized by using the sound of one's tap shoes hitting the floor as a percussive instrument. As such, it is also commonly considered to be a form of music. Broadway tap focuses on the dance, and is widely performed as a part of musical theater. Choreography typically starts on the eighth or first beat count. Another aspect of tap dancing is improvisation. This can either be done with music and follow the beats provided or without musical accompaniment, also known as acappella dancing. Our Tap program is offered to students of 5 years to Adult.

PROGRESSING BALLET TECHNIQUE

Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) is an innovative body-conditioning and strengthening program that has been designed to enhance students' technique by focussing on training the muscle memory required in each exercise in all forms of dance. It is a unique training system using ballet-technique specific exercises to train skill acquisition in a graded and progressive manner from junior through to advanced levels. PBT helps teachers around the world prepare their students to receive the strength they need to achieve their personal best.

The program helps with injury prevention and rehabilitation and enhances the ability of athletes to perform at their best. It can be difficult for students to feel which muscles initiate the correct alignment in training. However, with the use of an exercise ball, the students gain a great sense of posture and weight-placement whilst feeling each correct muscle group working throughout each exercise, which then stays with them when whilst performing in dance or their chosen field of sport

READY SET DANCE

CONTEmporary

Ready Set Dance is an innovative program designed specifically to introduce young children to the world of dance. In each class teachers explore aspects of the Ready Set Dance curriculum through playful approaches which are responsive to the curiosity and imagination of young learners.

The children respond with active and joyful engagement and participation that enables them to practice and refine the skills and capacities needed for dance. At the same time the children are extended across the various developmental domains of physical, cognitive, language and social development and use learning processes such as attending, remembering and problem solving.

Through regular and sustained participation in Ready Set Dance classes children develop positive dispositions to learning such as enthusiasm, independence, concentration, persistence, co-operation and the three C’ so Confidence, Coordination, and Creativity.

Ready Set Dance offers much to support the play and learning of young children in Australia and beyond.

Contemporary is a very interpretive style of dance and is considered unconventional because it shifted away from classical ballet and lyrical dance forms. Unlike classical ballet, contemporary dance does not have fixed movements, instead it is a search for new forms and dynamics. It focuses on oppositional movement, alignment, raw emotion, and systematic breathing. A creative and innovative style it allows the dancer to explore the natural use of gravity, working with body weight in terms of fall, rebound, recovery and suspension. This genre requires strength and expression and is encouraged and offered from Junior - Senior levels
